Immersive Trails Mission & Ethics Code

Date: 03 May 2024

Mission Statement

Immersive Trails aims to raise awareness of tangible and intangible cultural heritage on the individual and community levels, including members of the communities we work with, those who come to our events, the general public, and ourselves.

To facilitate these goals, we abide by the following principles.

Ethical Research
All research must be carried out according to the standards set out by the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology (NAPA) and the Association of American Anthropologists (AAA). The research must be original and socially responsible, and must incorporate diverse perspectives, some of which may contradict each other.

The ultimate goal of each research project is not just to do no harm, but also to do some good.

Equality & Inclusivity
Immersive Trails has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination or harassment of anyone because of their age, disability or medical history, gender identity, marital or legal partnership status, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or because of pregnancy or maternal status. This applies to employees of Immersive Trails LLC, our customers, and anyone we interact with at any time.

Any harassment should be immediately reported to the walk or tour leader, the co-founders, and the relevant civil authorities as required.

During every phase of operations, we consider the opinions, spaces, needs, and traditions of the local community. Our events encourage interactions between the members of local communities and the wider public. At all times, mutual respect is paramount.

Accessibility
Immersive Trails is committed to finding ways to make our tours and other materials as accessible as possible.

This includes:
•  Sharing our research with the public in fun, accessible ways.
•  Creating a range of activities and events to engage people of different ages and with different interests.
•  Working with customers who have limited mobility to create a unique tour plan that will meet their needs, as much as possible.
• Provide multilingual support where possible.

Transparency
Immersive Trails events or products never have hidden charges. We believe that being fair and honest with everyone will result in a better society and community.

A portion of our profits go towards funding research projects that have otherwise been overlooked via our Trusted Heritage initiative.

Equal Opportunity
Immersive Trails LLC does not discriminate against anyone because of their age, disability or medical history, gender identity, marital or legal partnership status, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or because of pregnancy or maternal status.  This applies to all aspects of employment, for anyone working with Immersive Trails LLC in any role, including hiring, training, evaluation, pay and benefits, and worker termination. We do not retaliate against employees in any way, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any sort.

The co-founders are responsible for assessing the company's employment processes and ensuring they are bias-free. Should a bias be detected, we will act immediately to mitigate the effects of the bias, train the entire team to combat their biases, and protect the possible victims of that bias. We respect all team members and will ensure that everyone is given the chance to work in an environment where their rights are respected. All supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all decisions are based on objective, non-descriminatory criteria. We expect everyone to comply with these policies at all times.

If you see or suspect that these policies are being violated, please speak with one of the co-founders immediately. If you suspect that someone is behaving in a wrong way but does not realize it, you may also discuss it with them directly.

If someone acts in a discriminatory manner, they will be subject to disciplinary action depending on the severity of their actions. This can range from a verbal or written reprimand to termination of employment with the company.
